The nuclear-powered Enterprise was the first aircraft carrier of its type and one of the largest vessels ever built. This gigantic aircraft carrier was commissioned on 25.11.1961. Eight water-cooled reactors generate a total power output of 300,000 hp, giving the ship an average speed of 35 knots. The water displacement is 75,700 tonnes and the flight deck is 76.8 metres wide. An average of 414 officers and 4,260 crew are on board. As Enterprise is independent of external supplies due to its nuclear propulsion, large fuel depots are available for the aircraft on board. The largest and most modern aircraft in the US Navy can be operated from the Enterprise.
