Built by F. Schichau in Elbing, the 1939-type Torpedoboats have excellent seakeeping qualities. They have very good manoeuvring qualities, even in bad weather, particularly when gybing, despite a tendency to pick up spray from the leeward side. Well-armed and long-lasting, their overall appearance differs only slightly from one ship to the next, mainly in terms of armament or detection system antennae, depending on the period in question.
