EASY MODEL 36224
Scale 1:72

Period: WWII
Country: Germany

The Jagdpanzer Elefant is a Schwerer Panzerjäger (German for heavy tank fighter) used by the German Army (Wehrmacht) during the Second World War.

It was a direct result of the Tigerprogramm, a competition between Porsche and Henschel, which the latter won.

Porsche, which was sure of the success of its prototype, had already launched the production of 90 chassis, which remained in its hands. It was then decided to recycle them into a heavy tank fighter.

This one was first given the nickname Ferdinand in reference to its designer Ferdinand Porsche. Contrary to popular belief, the change of name from 'Ferdinand' to 'Elefant' was not related to the adoption of the body gun and some modifications: the tanks just came under the control of tank fighter units. Even if the two events coincide, they are therefore in no way related.

The official German designation was 8.8 cm PaK 43/2 Sfl L / 71 Panzerjäger Tiger (P) or Panzerjäger Tiger (P) in short version and its inventory designation was Sonderkraftfahrzeug 184 (or Sd. Kfz. 184).
