Russian Akula 1:700
EASY MODEL 37304
Scale 1:700
Period: 1984
Country: USSR, then Russia
The Akula class is a class of Soviet and later Russian nuclear attack submarines. There are several sub-classes (e.g. 971, 971M, 971U, 971A...). The Akula class is a complete redesign of the Alfa class, already well advanced for its time. These submarines were designed as a reaction to the American Los Angeles class submarines.
The Akula class attack submarines were the quietest Russian nuclear submarines had ever built, and the low noise levels came as a surprise to Western intelligence. All Akulas are armed with 533 mm torpedo tubes which can use Type 53 torpedoes and 650 mm torpedo tubes which can use Type 65 torpedoes. They can also be used to launch cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles as well as mines. The 650 mm tubes can be fitted with liners to provide additional 533 mm weapon launch capacity.
