The Challenger 1 made a decisive mark on British military history as the main battle tank from 1983 to 2001. It saw its first combat action during the Gulf War in 1991, where it distinguished itself with exceptional firing accuracy. Its continuous modernisation, notably the additional armour plating of the Mk. 3 version, made it one of the best-protected tanks of its era. The massive 1,200 hp engine gave this 62-tonne colossus a remarkable speed of 56 km/h.
