Renault began developing the AH series of trucks for the French army in 1939. One of these medium-duty 3-tonne trucks is the AHN, with a payload of 3.5 tonnes. The prototype was unveiled in February 1940. Its design is fairly simple, with a flat cab without a bonnet. Series production began in March 1941 in Boulogne-Billancourt, specifically for the German Wehrmacht. Many AHN trucks were used by all German armies until the end of the war, both on the German-Soviet front and in Italy and France. A modified version of the truck, the AHN2, was then produced in series.
